S/4HANA Services

With S/4HANA 2020, SAP introduced Lean Services, a new type of service order. With Lean Services, a product category (material or service) can be assigned to a material master. A material of the type “service” may be used in standard or enhanced limit purchase orders. Item category “D” need not be used anymore.

With Lean Services, you can also assign a product category to free text items without material numbers, which makes them function like Lean Service items. For these kinds of Lean Service items, the Goods Receipt Related Invoice Verification indicator can be set, but the Service Related Invoice Verification indicator cannot. Goods receipts are not created directly; instead, a new type of service entry sheet must be posted. When the service entry sheet is posted, a goods receipt will automatically be posted in the background. These new services can only be posted by means of a specific SAP Fiori app. Transaction ML81N cannot be used.

For additional item categories (e.g. old blanket purchase orders or consignment), the Product category field cannot be edited, so lean services orders cannot be used for them.

As of Version 5.2.10, Lean Services are supported as follows:

  • Creation of an item proposal in the xSuite Invoice Monitor for a Lean Service item with goods-receipt-related invoice verification, provided that a service entry sheet is available

  • Creation of an item proposal in the xSuite Invoice Monitor for a Lean Service item without goods-receipt-related invoice verification

  • Identification of blocking reasons for Lean Service items

  • Support of Lean Service items in the MM and XI account-assignment block during the review process
